Welcome to Fairbanks, Alaska!!

From Fairbanks International Airport, Curt drove us to Springhill Marriot where we are accomodated. Excellent facilities with each self-contained units & 2 TVs sets; in the bedroom & living area. Some interesting facts about Alaska; its the largest state in the US in terms of size & the highest peak, Mt. Mckinley is also here!! & we are looking forward to our first sightings of the Northern Lights - "Aurora bourealis" We'll surely get you some photos Carole!!People are very friendly here!! later on in the day (Sun, 4th Dec: 10am) we took a walk around the area. We seem to be the only ones about! We wondered why that was until a shop attendant said they don't normally walk around outside during winter!! Later on in the day we took a taxi to Fred Meyers which is one of the nearest shopping malls from where we are staying. We took a look around & was so amused with the range of things they were selling. Left the mall @ about 4pm & it was dark outside. That's another interesting fact about Alaska in the winter; daylight is from 10am-2pm with the rest of the day in total darkness.
